Chillaxing while others panic

Chillaxing! That is what I have been doing this week. I have had a weeks holiday which has meant I have been able to recharge my batteries as well as catch up on things. I have even had great weather which is rare for me when I am off. Anyway here is what I have been up to this week.

Usually when I have time off work I may be lucky and get one or two days that are nice at the most. This week though the country seems to have been experiencing a heat wave of sorts. On Tuesday I met up with a friend for lunch and we sat outside. This was to take advantage of the glorious weather and also because the pub for some unknown reason thought they would have blazing open fires on while it was 23 degrees outside!! It was a great lunch and nice to catch up and I ended up catching the sun. Although it was only one arm so the other is pale as usual. This doesn’t really matter but it is quite surprising that it has been so warm in March. This is the weather we should get in the summer. I hope this is not it for the year. I suppose we will have to wait and see.

As well as partial sun bathing I have also caught up with a lot of films this week. I had planned to do this as I had a few DVD’s to catch up on (I still have lots to do yet) and I wanted to go to the cinema to see the Hunger Games. I haven’t read the book of ‘The Hunger Games’ yet so I didn’t have anything to compare it to and therefore no real expectations. It was an OK film but I don’t get the hype around it. Basically it is Lord of the Flies meets Big Brother. I hope the book is better. The other films I watched were ‘Thor’, ‘The Artist’, and ‘Toy Story 3’. Once again I didn’t get the hype about ‘The Artist’. It is a sweet and charming film but that is all. Although it is true the dog is amazing in it and should have got an Oscar. ‘Thor’ was really good. I didn’t know much about this Marvel Hero but I certainly want to watch future films. Chris Hemsworth certainly adds a bit of Pwoar to Thor. Finally the last film I watched was ‘Toy Story 3’. I have had this on DVD for a while but have put off watching it because I knew it would leave me a jibbering wreck. I was not wrong. Yep a Disney film has left a frown 31yr old man blubbering. This is not a good sight but in my defence you would have to have a heart of stone not to shed at least a few tears after watching the film.

As well as watching films this week. I have also discovered a new game for my phone. It is called ‘Draw Some’. Basically it is the game Pictionary and you play against your friends online. It is really good fun and also very addictive. If you have it and know me then why not add me as a friend. I must warn you though that you will spend ages on it.

While I have been off this week trying to relax and recharge my batteries it seems the country has been in panic mode over petrol. Petrol tanker drivers had voted to stage a strike which they have a legal right to do. They had not picked a date for when action would take place but they would be talking with the relevant parties to solve the problem and hopefully no strike would be needed. If action was to go ahead then at least 7 days notice has to be given, so there was never any immediate problem. This is all fine and straight forward. However certain key figures went into panic mode and this led many members of the public to panic as well and they started panic buying. This was not helped by confusing statements by ministers. Yes members of the public should have used their common sense and realised that they didn’t need to panic. But when someone says there is no reason to panic your natural reaction is of course to panic. Its like when someone says don’t press that button you suddenly have the urge to press it. Also it did involve two things us Brits enjoy doing. We enjoy panicking and forming queues. So this petrol shortage did combine two of the Nation’s favourite past times. Thankfully things seem to have calmed down for now. Maybe it was the heat getting to everyone.

Overall I have had a nice week off and haven’t been too anxious. I know this sounds mad but when I am off I sometimes get a bit anxious. This week has been OK though and I am ready for work again this week.  So until next week then.
